Basic Powers from Savage Worlds

Savage worlds uses a common base for all of its spells. Most spell lists add trappings to the spell to make it specific to the the cult or college. Use this page to look up descriptions for the basic powers.

Banish Veteran 3 Smt Instant Arcane skill vs. Spi roll: Outsider target is Shaken (or sent to their proper plane of existence with Raise)
Barrier Seasoned S Smt 3/(Spec.) Creates a barrier with a Toughness of 10; Every 1 PP = 1" section
Beast Friend Novice S Smt×100 10m Speak with and guide the actions of animals; PP cost depends on the size of the creature
Blast Seasoned 2-6 24/48/96 Instant 2d6 dmg to all in Medium Template; 2×PPs increase template to Large or dmg to 3d6; 3×PPs do both
Bless/Curse Seasoned 4-6 Smt×2 3 (2/r) All within Medium Template has a Trait raised or lowered by one die type (two with Raise); + 2 PPs to make Large Template
Blind Novice 2-6 12/24/48 Instant For 2 PPs, blinds a target; 4 PPs, affects all within Medium Template; 6 PPs, Large Template; Target(s) get Agi-2 roll to avoid
Bolt Novice 1,2,3 12/24/48 Instant 1-3PP for 1 to 3 bolts of 2d6 damage each at target(s); 2PPs for 31 d6 dmg bolt
Boost/Lower Trait Novice 2 Smt 3 (1/r) Raise or lower any Trait by one die type (two with Raise)
Burrow Novice 3 Smt×2 3 (2/r) Travel underground up to Smt×2" per round; Can attempt to surprise foe for + 2 attack/dmg (+4 with Raise)
Burst Novice 2 Cone Instant Targets within Cone Template make Agi roll vs. caster’s Arcane skill roll, failure causes 2d10 dmg; Counts as a Heavy Weapon
Concentrate Seasoned 4 Self 3 (2/r) Caster’s maintained powers may not be disrupted (also suffers no penalty to Arcane skill rolls with Raise)
Confusion Novice 1-3 Smt×2 Instant 1-3 targets must make Smt rolls at -2 (-4 with Raise) or become Shaken; Caster must make Arcane skill roll for each target
Damage Field Novice 4 Touch 3 (1/r) Target covered by a magical field; Deals 2d6 dmg to anyone that touches/melees or is touched/meleed by (unarmed) target
Darksight Novice 1 Touch 1h (1/h) Target halves (rounded down) penalties for dim/dark lightning (or ignores all darkness penalties up to -6 with Raise)
Deflection Novice 2 Touch 3 (1/r) -2 penalty to be hit (-4 with Raise); Also acts as armor during AoE attack
Det./Con. Arcana Novice 2 Sight Spec. Detects/Conceals visible or invisible magical persons, objects and/or effects within sight
Disguise Seasoned 3-5 Touch 10m (1/10m) Target assumes appearance (but not abilities) of another; + 1 PP per size increase up to max of + 2 size levels
Dispel Seasoned 3 Smt Instant Opposed Arcane rolls (-2 to caster if target’s AB is different): Cancel/remove magical effects
Divination Heroic 5 Self 1 minute Caster speaks with otherworldly being; Answer is “Yes”, “No” or “Possibly” (or 5 words or less with Raise)
Drain Power Points Heroic 3 Smt Instant Opposed Arcane rolls (-2 to caster if target’s AB is different): Target loses 1d6+1 PPs (1d8+2 with Raise); Points don’t transfer to caster
Draining Touch Seasoned 3 Self 3 (1/r) Caster gains a “draining” touch; Targets who are touched must make a Vig roll (at -2 with Raise) or suffer a Fatigue level
Elem. Manipulation Novice 1 Smt×2 Instant Cantrips of one elemental type: Air, Earth, Fire or Water
Entangle Novice 2-4 Smt Special Arcane skill vs. Agi roll: For 2 PPs, restrain target (or restrain fully with Raise); For 4 PPs, all within Medium Template are affected
Environ. Protection Novice 2 Touch 1h (1/h) Protection against environmental hazards (and maintain cost becomes (1/2h) with Raise)
Farsight Seasoned 3 Touch 3 (1/r) Ranged attack penalties for target are halved (and all range increments are doubled with Raise)
Fear Novice 2 Smt×2 Instant WCs within Large Template must make Guts check (at -2 with Raise) or roll on Fear table; Extras are Panicked
Fly Veteran 3/6 Touch 3 (1/r) Character can fly at basic Pace and climb at 1/2 basic Pace; 2×PPs to double Pace
Greater Healing Veteran 10/20 Touch Instant Heals older wounds and crippling injuries, otherwise acts like Healing power
Growth/Shrink Seasoned 2+ Smt 3 (2/r) Increase/decrease the size of the target, up to double original size or down to Size -2; Unwilling targets resist with Spi vs. Arcane skill
Havoc Seasoned 2-4 Smt×2 Instant Targets within a Medium Template must roll Str (at -2 with Raise) or be thrown 2d6" in random direction and fall prone
Healing Novice 3 Touch Instant -1 Wound if < one hour old (-2 with Raise); Cures poison & disease if Healed within 10 mins of contraction
Intangibility Heroic 5 Touch 3 (2/r) Target becomes incorporeal; Can pass through solid objects but still is affected by magic attacks and items
Invisibility Seasoned 5 Self 3 (1/r) -4 to be detected or attacked (-6 with Raise), visible till next card if take a non free action
Jet Novice 2 12" Instant Creates a stream that shoots from caster; Targets within 1″×12″ (ruler) line must make an Agi vs. Arcane roll or suffer 2d10 dmg
Legerdemain Novice 1 Smt Instant Allows character to perform a single action at range he would normally be capable of doing in person
Light Novice 1 Touch 10m (1/m) Creates a Large Burst Template of clear light; Must be cast on an inanimate object
Mind Reading Novice 3 Smarts 1 Opposed smarts to gain 1 truthful answer
Obscure Novice 2 Smt 3 (1/r) Large Burst Template of total darkness; Those inside suffer -6 penalty to rolls involving vision
Pummel Seasoned 2 Cone Instant Targets within a Cone Template must roll Str (at -2 with Raise) or be knocked back 2d6" and fall prone
Puppet Veteran 3 Smt 3 (1/r) Arcane skill vs. Spi roll: Caster takes control of target and forces him to act, even kill allies or himself (victim gets 2nd Spi roll)
Quickness Seasoned 4 Touch 3 (2/r) Two actions per round (and character can discard and redraw any initiative cards <=>= 10, except J, with Raise)
Slumber Seasoned 2 Smt×2 1m (1/m) Living targets within a Medium Template must roll Spi (at -2 with Raise) or fall asleep; Sleepers awake if spell ends or hear loud noise
Smite Novice 2 Touch 3 (1/r) + 2 dmg bonus to a single weapon ( + 4 with Raise)
Speak Language Novice 1 Touch 10m (1/10m) Allows the character to read/write/speak non-animalistic languages; Can project dialect with Raise
Speed Novice 1 Touch 3 (1/r) Basic Pace is doubled (and negates running penalty with Raise)
Stun Novice 2 12/24/48 Special Targets within a Medium Template must roll Vig (at -2 with Raise) or be Shaken
Succor Novice 1 Touch Instant -1 Fatigue level (-2 with Raise); Removes Shaken; Restores consciousness from Incapacitation from Wounds
Summon Ally Special S Smt 3 (1/r) Summons an ally to aid the caster; Higher caster Rank increases cost and available ally types
Telekinesis Seasoned 5 Smt 3 (1/r) Can lift creatures, create telekinetic weapons and/or drop objects
Teleport Seasoned 3+ Spec. Instant Instantly disappear & reappear up to 10" per 3 PPs spent (15" with a Raise); Failure causes Shaken/damage
Wall Walker Novice 2 Touch 3 (1/r) Move along any surface at half normal pace; Full normal Pace and may run with a Raise
Warriors Gift Seasoned 4 Touch 3 (1/r) Target gains benefits of one Combat Edge; Caster must be one Rank higher than Edge requirement (other reqs ignored)
Zombie Veteran S Smt Special Caster creates one zombie/3 PP; Corpses must already be present nearby; Zombies last 1h (1d6h with Raise or 1 day with 2 Raises)
